Stepan Company Supports STEM Scholar through Future of STEM Scholars Initiative

April 12, 2022

Stepan Company is proud to announce that it has once again partnered with the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) to sponsor a post-secondary student. FOSSI is a national, industry-wide program that provides scholarships to students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and connects students to leadership development, mentoring and internship opportunities at participating companies.

FOSSI is dedicated to supporting scholars who would otherwise not have access to quality STEM education due to financial barriers.

“Initiatives like FOSSI are critical to achieving parity in our industry, engaging a diverse and dynamic talent pool, and embracing the future of technology. The U.S. is facing a talent shortage in the STEM fields and companies are searching for ways to engage exceptional candidates. Over the next 10 years, we will need to fill a million STEM roles and there are not enough students to fill that need,” explained FOSSI Founding Chair Mark Vergnano.

“Every company that experiences diversity, understands that diversity brings better business results. All of us who participate in a diverse workforce know that it is a better workforce. We want this to become part of the fabric of each company’s talent acquisition strategy. FOSSI is a pipeline to getting the best talent out there.”

At Stepan, we put people first and take pride in supporting the future of the STEMs field. Part of our responsibility as a strong corporate partner includes promoting STEM learning, with the goal of developing the next generation of talented scientists and engineers.
